Is it good or bad to plant trees in large areas in the desert? Will it affect rainfall in the desert?

When talking about sand control, people probably think of planting trees first. This is the most common, fastest and effective short-term sand control method known to mankind. And planting trees in the desert can green the desert, but is it really good for the desert? This question has been much debated.

In the early stage of improving the environment in arid areas, the Chinese government made great efforts to plant trees and afforestation, which played a weak role at first, but the survival rate of trees was very low, the water and soil were serious, and the speed of land desertification increased instead of falling. This is "Chinese-style governance". Sha" encountered an embarrassing situation in the early days. And not all trees can adapt to the desert environment, only a very small number of trees with well-developed root systems can survive in the desert, what do trees with well-developed root systems rely on to survive in the desert? The answer is deep water in the ground.

In the desert, there was some vegetation originally, but people replaced the original vegetation with trees in order to plant trees. The roots of these trees can drill deeper into the ground than the original vegetation, so that the amount of deep water will increase. A large amount is less, leading to a decrease in land water content, lower groundwater levels, and more plants in the desert will die as a result, resulting in more serious desertification in desert areas that have not been "governed". The reduction of groundwater will lead to the reduction of the total water in the ecological cycle system, which will lead to the reduction of rainfall, and finally evolve into a vicious cycle of continuous reduction of water in the desert.

But of course, the goal of Chinese afforestation is a virtuous circle, transporting water to the desert to irrigate the growth of plants. But if we look at it from another angle, if the Chinese have enough water to change the entire desert, then the middle tree is a bit redundant. When people don't put enough water into the desert, once the trees "thirsty" , it will start to absorb groundwater, and return to the previous vicious circle.
