The baby accidentally bites off the thermometer and eats 'mercury' by mistake. Parents should know these first aid measures
Mercury, scientific name mercury, is a chemical element with chronic toxicity when evaporated at room temperature.
Therefore, from this definition, it can be seen that if the baby eats mercury by mistake, it will pose a great threat to the baby's life.
For example, the liver, central nervous system, brain, taste, mouth, etc. may be damaged.
So, if the baby accidentally ingests mercury, what should parents do in a short period of time to minimize the threat to life?
The mother calmed down the first aid and accidentally ingested the "mercury" baby, the doctor praised
Xiaofang's child is 5 years old this year, and his family likes to call him Xiaobao. In normal times, Xiaobao likes to grab whatever interests him and put it in his mouth to eat.
That time, Xiaobao's head was a little hot, and Xiaofang used a thermometer to help Xiaobao measure her temperature.
Just after reading the degree and confirming that Xiaobao has no fever, when he was about to put away the thermometer, he heard someone knocking on the door.
She didn't care, and just put the thermometer on the table. When he came back, he saw that Xiaobao bit off the thermometer, blood flowed from his mouth, and there were glass fragments and leaking mercury on the ground.
Immediately, her face turned pale with fright! However, no one can underestimate the instinct of a mother. Not knowing where the reason came from, she took a step forward and picked up Xiaobao and rushed to the bathroom.
Quickly wash Xiaobao's mouth and hands, and make sure that the blood in his mouth is cleaned. He hurried to the kitchen again, took out the raw egg, skimmed the yolk, left the egg white, and let Xiaobao drink it all.
Finally picked up Xiaobao and rushed to the hospital. Fortunately, after the doctor's examination, it was determined that there were no abnormal symptoms such as dizziness and abdominal pain of mercury poisoning. After asking, I learned that Xiaofang had taken first aid measures before coming.
Children are full of curiosity about the world, they do not know what is safe and what is dangerous. So you never know what your child will suddenly pick up and put in his mouth the next second.
Remember the following four points about the first aid methods for accidentally ingesting mercury to minimize the damage that mercury may cause to the body.
First aid for ingesting mercury
①Rinse the mouth
Rinse the mercury out of your mouth with water. The purpose of this is to prevent the mercury from causing damage to the oral mucosa and teeth. It is best to use running water for more thorough cleaning.
②Drink egg white
Mercury encounters the protein in egg whites and has the effect of relieving mercury toxicity. For the mercury that has been drunk in the child's stomach, drinking egg white can protect the gastric mucosa to a certain extent.
If you don't have eggs, you can also fry leeks for your kids. Because leeks are easier to digest, the mercury in the stomach will be excreted along with the leeks. Of course, you can also flush with water to induce vomiting.
③ Immediately seek medical attention
After completing the above two first aid measures, the child was rushed to the hospital for further examination.
If the thermometer is broken and the mercury is scattered on the ground, you need to know these first aid methods.
First aid method for mercury scattered on the ground
① Realize air circulation
When mercury falls on the ground at home, the first step is to achieve air convection, open the windows, and allow the outdoor air to exchange with the indoor air.
The purpose of this is, on the one hand, the indoor air will drop, delaying the volatilization of mercury; on the other hand, the toxicity of the volatilized mercury in the air will no longer be concentrated in the room, and the mercury concentration will be diluted.
② Lower the indoor temperature
When there is heating equipment such as heating in the room, it must be turned off to reduce the indoor temperature and reduce the rate of mercury volatilization.
③Clean up
Do not vacuum the mercury
Because the vacuum cleaner is a kind of energized equipment with wind, it will accelerate the evaporation of mercury during use, and the consequence of this can only be an increase in the concentration of mercury in the air.
Don't use the mop directly
Mop cleaning mercury can have two harmful consequences:
Consequence 1, the cleaned mop has mercury on it. When the mop is cleaned with water, the mercury water on the mop enters the sewer with the water pipe, and finally causes water resources pollution;
Consequence two, using a mop to clean the mercury does not necessarily guarantee that the mercury can be cleaned up, and it will also rub against the ground during the mopping process to generate heat, which will cause the mercury to volatilize quickly and emit toxicity.
The best way is to take out a piece of hard paper, fold it into a shape that makes it easy to shovel the mercury up, and clean up the mercury.
④ Throw out the mercury
After cleaning the mercury, do not throw it directly into the trash can, because the trash can be indoors, and the mercury can still volatilize in the trash can.
You can wrap all the mercury in cardboard, wrap several layers of toilet paper, and throw it in the trash.
