42 days postpartum confinement, ten taboos should not be violated, not a traditional superstition, mothers need to pay attention

Speaking of the taboo issue of confinement, a friend shared her experience with me.

After being pushed out of the delivery room, the old man in the family stepped forward and asked, "Doctor, how long does it take for her to eat? My ribs are all stewed at home."

Seeing that the old man was so impatient, the doctor smiled and said, "Now let's eat something light and slow, I can't drink pork ribs soup."

Regarding the question of drinking soup after childbirth, in fact, many people have misunderstandings, thinking that the earlier the soup is consumed, the sooner the milk will be given.

In fact, although the confinement of new mothers is passed down by the older generation, not all of them can follow suit. If the taboo is violated, a series of problems may occur, such as the inability of the stomach to go back, the flattened and enlarged buttocks, accelerated aging and so on.

Next, I will summarize the top ten taboos that cannot be committed during the 42 days of confinement after childbirth. This is not a traditional superstition, but a scientific conclusion from the perspective of nursing and nutrition. Moms need to pay attention and don't take it too seriously.

Postpartum confinement, these ten taboos should not be violated

  1. Big supplements as soon as the delivery room is delivered

Traditional Chinese medicine says that if the deficiency is not supplemented, the body of the puerpera who has just given birth is very weak, and the direct supplementation will definitely not be able to bear it.

Not to mention anything else, let’s just talk about the internal organs that are compressed by the uterus during pregnancy, it takes time to slowly return to its place. If you have a natural birth, you will need a period of rest. If you have a caesarean section, because the stomach and intestines are emptied before the operation, it is necessary to wait until after ventilation before eating.

If you eat fortified foods too early, it is likely to damage the stomach.

What's more, the first problem after giving birth is breastfeeding. At this time, because the mother has not opened milk, the breasts are not smooth, so they need to suck for stimulation. If the breasts have not been dredged, supplementation will lead to increased milk, which is not beneficial to the baby and the mother.

Tips:

Confinement supplementation and conditioning are regular, and the principle of "one row, two adjustments and three supplements" must be followed.

That is to say, the first week after giving birth is mainly for metabolism and detoxification, the second week is for conditioning the body to contract the uterus and pelvis, and nutrition and nourishment can be really carried out from the third week.

  1. hold back urine

There is an incision in the abdomen of a caesarean section, and there may also be tears or side cuts in natural delivery, but it is not right to hold back urine and defecate because you are afraid that the wound will hurt and you will not be able to go to the toilet.

Because the retention of excrement will affect uterine contractions, which is not conducive to postpartum recovery.

Tips:

As long as there is urine or stool, it is necessary to take the time to expel it. The first time is very painful, and the second time is slightly better.

In addition, don't stop drinking water or eating fruit because you are afraid of pain when going to the toilet. If you have constipation, it will be more painful to defecate.

  1. Ao Ye

Most novice mothers will have a feeling of being real and imaginary after giving birth to a baby. In addition, they have to breastfeed at night, and they like to watch the baby excitedly without rest.

But this is not good for the recovery of the body. You should take all the time to rest after giving birth.

Tips:

Half an hour after giving birth, mothers should seize the time to take a nap. In addition to getting out of bed for three days after giving birth, try to rest as much as possible for the rest of the time. Usually, the most important thing is to try to keep your own and your baby’s work and rest time consistent.

Babies in confinement have a lot of breastfeeding. Mothers do not have a good rest, so they have to follow the day and night upside down. The best way at this time is to adjust the biological clock and work and rest with the baby.

  1. Do not brush your teeth or clean your body

The traditional view is that the confinement should not touch water. In fact, part of the reason is that it is limited by the ancient nursing environment, and in this case, the incidence of female gynecological inflammation has also increased.

If the skin is not cleaned, a large number of bacteria will take advantage of it. If there is a wound on the body, it may become infected, and there is also a risk when breastfeeding the baby.

Tips:

After the postpartum recovery is almost complete, you can take a shower, but pay attention to try to end the fight within 5 to 10 minutes, keep the room temperature and water temperature, and dry it immediately after washing.

Of course, if the postpartum body is particularly weak and the usual physical fitness is not good, don't force yourself to take a bath, it is better to take a bath in the morning and evening with the help of your family.

After a caesarean section, it is generally necessary to wait until the incision has recovered almost a week or two after delivery, and then you can take a bath, and remember to disinfect with iodophor afterward.

  1. Staying in bed all the time

It’s true that confinement babies need rest, but that doesn’t mean they have to stay in bed all the time.

There is an old saying that lying on the bed for a long time will prevent back pain, but this is not the case. You can only change a few sleeping positions while lying on the bed, which will also leave the problem of back pain.

Furthermore, the bladder will compress the uterus when lying down, which can easily lead to uterine prolapse, and it is easy to constipate if the bowel does not move.

Tips:

Three days after giving birth, you can go down and move slowly, walking, turning over, and lifting your arms and legs.

One week after giving birth, you can do some small housework such as folding clothes; you can simply exercise for four weeks after giving birth, and postpartum yoga is recommended.

  1. Eat MSG

Since postpartum meals are relatively light, in order to enhance the taste, many people will put MSG in it.

However, the sodium glutamate in it may be passed to the baby through breast milk, which is easy to cause zinc deficiency in the baby within 12 weeks.

  1. Touch cold water after 30 days

The public thinks that confinement is 30 days, but medically it is 42 days.

Some mothers have been suffering for 30 days, and they start to "free themselves" as soon as the confinement is born, but they still can't touch cold water at this time. Generally, doctors recommend that after 8 weeks.

  1. Cover the confinement

Confinement does need to keep warm, but it's not enough to cover it too much. After all, there are many people in the family, and if anyone comes to visit, they may carry bacteria and viruses. In a warm and confined space, the chance of infection will increase.

Tips:

It is necessary to open the window for ventilation during confinement. It is recommended that the mother and baby stay in another room before opening the window for ventilation, and then return to room temperature after the ventilation is completed.

In summer, when the temperature is too high, you can turn on the air conditioner, but you must install a windshield and not blow it directly.

  1. Not exercising

We all know that breastfeeding can help to lose weight and get back in shape to a certain extent, but that doesn't mean you don't have to make other efforts.

In fact, some breastfeeding mothers and children are two or three years old and still have sagging tummies. After all, apart from fat accumulation, rectus abdominis separation during pregnancy is difficult to recover.

Tips:

The mother should decide what to do according to the degree of separation of the rectus abdominis. If the distance between the two muscles exceeds three fingers, they should seek the help of a professional doctor. If the distance between the two muscles is less than three fingers, they can do plank support or wear an abdominal belt.

  1. Intercourse too early

Many mothers think that they can live a married life after the lochia has been removed. In fact, this idea is wrong. There are wounds in the uterus, cervix, and intestines, and they need to be properly restored.

The married life must be at least 42 days later, and it can be postponed further according to your own situation.
