Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pneumonia, the problem of excessive consumption of wild animals has posed a huge hidden danger to public health and safety, which has aroused widespread concern from all walks of life.

On the afternoon of February 24, the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress voted and passed the "Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Comprehensively Prohibiting Illegal Wildlife Trade, Eliminating the Bad Habits of Eating Wild Animals, and Effectively Protecting People's Lives, Health and Safety." (hereinafter referred to as the "Decision").

The "Decision" not only completely prohibits the consumption of "terrestrial wild animals with important ecological, scientific and social value" protected by the state and other terrestrial wild animals, including artificially bred and artificially raised terrestrial wild animals; The Animal Protection Law and other relevant laws stipulate that those who hunt, trade, transport or eat wild animals shall be punished more severely on the basis of current legal provisions.

Eating wild animals indiscriminately may not only bring us viruses and endanger human health, but the indiscriminate hunting and killing of wild animals will also lead to the extinction of wild animals. And if large numbers of animals go extinct and the diversity of species on the planet is too low, systems will lose resilience, we will be constrained by all kinds of tiny climate changes, and human cultural diversity will be impoverished.

Species disappearing, however, is ubiquitous, says the book The Sixth Extinction: "One-third of all reef-building coral species, one-third of all freshwater mollusk species, and one-third of all shark and ray species. One-quarter of all mammal species, one-fifth of all reptile species, and one-sixth of all bird species are heading towards their respective demise."

One-tenth of China's extant species are endangered species, and leopard cats, wild horses, hozens, baiji dolphins, golden cats, and lynx are all hard to find.

The main exhibition hall of the Beijing Science Center has an exhibition item - "Lost Partners". This exhibition item shows us many extinct animals. We hope that visitors can understand the importance of animal protection through this exhibition item.

As said in the video, the earth does not belong to human beings, but human beings and other creatures belong to the earth, and they also belong to the children of the earth.

We have no right to hinder the survival of those innocent lifeforms. Humans, animals and nature complement each other. We should try our best to protect animals. To protect animals is to protect ourselves.
