Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pneumonia epidemic, excessive consumption of wild animals has posed a huge hidden danger to public health and safety, which has aroused widespread concern from all walks of life.

On the afternoon of February 24, the 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Thirteenth National People's Congress voted and passed the "Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on Comprehensive Prohibition of Illegal Wildlife Trading, Elimination of the Bad Habit of Excessive Eating of Wildlife, and Effective Protection of People's Lives, Health and Safety." (hereinafter referred to as the "Decision").

The "Decision" not only completely prohibits the consumption of "terrestrial wild animals with important ecological, scientific and social value" and other terrestrial wild animals protected by the state, including artificially bred and artificially raised terrestrial wild animals; According to the Animal Protection Law and other relevant laws, those who hunt, trade, transport and eat wild animals shall be punished more heavily on the basis of the current legal provisions.

Indiscriminate eating of wild animals may not only bring us viruses and endanger human health, but the indiscriminate hunting and killing of wild animals by humans will also cause the extinction of wild animals. And if a lot of animals go extinct, the diversity of species on the planet is too low, the system will lose its resilience, we will be locked in by various small climate changes, and human cultural diversity will be poor.

However, the disappearance of species is ubiquitous. The book "The Sixth Mass Extinction" states: "One-third of all reef-building coral species, one-third of all freshwater mollusc species, one-third of shark and ray species One in four of all mammal species, one in five of all reptile species, and one in six of all bird species are heading towards their respective extinctions."

One-tenth of the existing species in China are endangered species, leopard cats, wild horses, rabbit cats, baiji dolphins, golden cats, lynxes, etc. are hard to find.

The main exhibition hall of the Beijing Science Center has an exhibition item - "Lost Partner", which shows us many extinct animals. We hope that visitors can understand the importance of protecting animals through this exhibition item.

As said in the video, the earth does not belong to humans, but humans and other creatures belong to the earth, and they belong to the children of the earth.

We have no right to hinder the survival of those innocent living bodies. Human beings, animals and nature are complementary to each other. We should do our best to protect animals. Protecting animals is protecting ourselves.
