There are 3 ominous signs on the earth: green snow in the Antarctic, red snow in the Alps, and noctilucent clouds in the polar regions

Entering the third decade of the 21st century, many people have the feeling that everything is not right, the familiar life is gone, and the world has become completely different from before. You may be right. In addition to the virus that continues to rage, scientists have found three ominous signs on the earth since May, indicating that the threat of climate change to human beings may have become more and more serious.

In June, tall noctilucent clouds were spotted over the Bamburgh Lighthouse in Northumberland, England. Noctilucent clouds, a mesospheric glowing phenomenon, are the tallest clouds on Earth, appearing at the edge of space between 76 and 85 kilometers high. Scientists don't yet fully understand noctilucent clouds, but they may be ice crystals formed from very little water vapor in the mesosphere, from the decomposition of methane, a greenhouse gas. Noctilucent clouds usually appear over the polar regions at latitudes of 50 to 70 degrees, but now, more and more noctilucent clouds are appearing in farther areas, and noctilucent clouds are getting brighter and brighter, which is thought to be related to climate change. Warm has a lot to do with it.

In May, researchers from the University of Cambridge and the British Antarctic Survey found that green snow algae is turning the snow on the Antarctic Peninsula and surrounding islands green, even visible from space. That's because a warming climate causes algae to flourish, accelerating the melting of snow and ice. The research was published in the journal Nature Communications.

In early July, in parts of the Presena Glacier in the Italian Alps, scientists suddenly discovered that the ice and snow had turned a terrible pink. After sampling and analysis, this pink snow was determined to be caused by an algae called polar snow algae. of. The increase in temperature promotes the growth of algae, causing the ice and snow to darken, absorbing heat and causing more melting, prompting further algae growth, resulting in the appearance of large areas of pink ice and snow, also known as watermelon snow. In February of this year, the watermelon snow near the Antarctic Ukraine and Argentina scientific research stations was also dyed red overnight, which is frightening.

After seeing this phenomenon, Elisa Pongini, a tourist from Florence, said with emotion that the earth is giving back to us what we have done to her. 2020 is a special year, and terrible things have happened. Previously in Greenland, scientists also found that snow and ice turned pink.

Noctilucent clouds, green snow algae, watermelon snow, these previously rare phenomena are now appearing in large areas, which may indicate that the earth is undergoing profound changes. However, no matter whether these changes are terrible or not, we have no choice but to face it bravely, and hope that everyone can clearly understand the damage to the earth and to ourselves by the emission of greenhouse gases by human beings.
