What are the symptoms of a meniscus injury? Watch out for these three 'signs'

In daily life, people generally think that meniscus injuries are caused by bone and joint pain, knee sprains and fractures. But clinically, what symptoms are meniscal injuries?

Judging from the current clinical admissions of patients, there are three symptoms of meniscus injury:

The first symptom, joint pain, is a nonspecific symptom. Because there are many reasons that can cause joint pain, not only meniscus damage, but also other cartilage damage, synovitis and so on. However, meniscus injury still has its own characteristics. For example, mild meniscus injury, that is, first-degree to second-degree injury, is mainly manifested by obvious pain when going up and down stairs. On the other hand, there is no pain when walking on a flat road, but only when you walk for a long time, the pain will appear.

In the third-degree injury, the pain will be relatively more obvious. In addition to going up and down the stairs and walking for a long time, there will also be more obvious pain in squatting, walking on a flat road, and joint flexion and extension activities.

The second symptom is popping, but popping is not a problem that occurs in all patients with meniscus damage. At the same time, popping is not necessarily a meniscus damage, it is a mutual problem.

The meniscus popping is mainly due to a severe tear of the meniscus, such as a third-degree injury to the meniscus. At this time, the torn part of the joint cannot fit well with the joint seam, and occurs between the cartilages. some friction, resulting in a snapping sound. Especially in children with discoid meniscus injury, this kind of injury, snapping is a very obvious manifestation.

The third symptom is the noose, once the torn meniscus falls off, creating a so-called "barrel handle tear" within the joint. At this time, the torn part of the meniscus is squeezed into the intercondylar fossa, which greatly restricts the movement of the joint. This is one of the symptoms of an interlocking joint, a meniscus injury.

To sum up, meniscus injury may have three symptoms: pain, snapping, and noose. Some patients may have one of them, or two or three of them. The specific aspects need to be approved by a doctor. Comprehensive judgment can be accurately diagnosed.
